Michael L. Van Cise

Michael L. Van Cise joined Scroggin & Company in August 2006. Michael grew up in Rome, Georgia where he attended Darlington School. He played number one doubles on the 1996 AA state champion tennis team and was a member of the 1997 A state runner-up cross country team.

Michael studied History at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. In 2001 he graduated summa cum laude from Mercer.

Michael received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, one of only two awards given at commencement, from Mercer University. While at Mercer, Michael studied abroad in Oxford England in 1998 and completed a Russian study tour visiting Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladimir, and Suzdal in Russia as well as Helsinki, Finland in 2000. He was a member, President and Alumni chairman of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

After graduating from Mercer, Michael worked in the financial services industry with Wachovia Securities in Macon, Georgia in 2001 and in non-profit fundraising with Darlington School in Rome, Georgia from 2001 to 2003.

Michael graduated, magna cum laude, with his Juris Doctorate, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2006. He graduated in the top ten percent of his law school class and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in December 2006.

Michael was the Executive Notes Editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property at the University of Georgia Law School. His Note, "The Georgia Open Records Law Electronic Signature Exception: The Intersection of Privacy, Technology, and Open Records" was published in the Spring 2005 issue of the journal.

In 2006, Michael interned with the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta, Georgia.

Michael currently serves on the American Cancer Society "Evening of Hope" steering committee. He and his wife Lindsey live in Sandy Springs with their cat, Remy.
